FCDS is Gold!

We are pleased to share a significant achievement for the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS): this year, FCDS earned Gold Certification from the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) — the highest level of certification a central cancer registry can achieve — and was also recognized as a Registry of Distinction by the CDC's National Program of Cancer Registries (NPCR), our primary federal funding source.

Gold Certification is not awarded lightly. It requires case ascertainment of 95% or higher, data that is effectively error-free across the variables used to calculate incidence statistics, minimal reliance on death certificates as the only source of case identification, and submission of a complete annual data file within 23 months of the close of the diagnosis year. Not every registry in the country meets every one of these standards in the same year, and Florida has for decades.
