NAACCR Annual Conference Update 2025

This year, the Connecticut Tumor Registry proudly hosted the NAACCR 2025 Annual Conference, coinciding with their 90th anniversary celebration.

Held at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, the event embraced the theme "90 Years of Excellence: Honoring the Past, Embracing the Future."

Conference sessions explored a wide range of topics, including advancements in cancer informatics, policy development and partnerships, innovative research utilizing cancer surveillance data, and efforts to address disparities in cancer burden. Oral presentations covered everything from registry operations to advanced data applications, with a strong focus on lung cancer screening research.

A highlight of the event was a keynote address by Dr. Eric “Rocky” Feuer, who proposed rebranding the term “descriptive epidemiology” as “cancer surveillance science”—a shift intended to better reflect the depth and impact of the work produced by central cancer registries.

The conference also featured international collaboration, with Canadian colleagues spotlighting their efforts through a presentation titled “Pan-Canadian Cancer Data Strategy and CPAC’s Leadership in Canada.” Additionally, Dr. David Lee, Principal Investigator and Director of the Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS), shared updates from the Florida Cancer Firefighter Study, including new findings on colorectal cancer among male Florida firefighters.
