2025 Jean Byers Memorial Award for Excellence in Cancer Registration
The Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS) proudly presents two awards annually to recognize outstanding facilities and individuals who show exceptional dedication and achievement in cancer registration.
These awards include the Jean Byers Award, named after a pioneering leader in cancer data, and the Pat Strait Award, which acknowledges significant contributions to the integrity and accuracy of cancer abstracting. Each award aims to celebrate excellence and motivate ongoing improvement in cancer registration practices.
The Jean Byers Memorial Award is presented to facilities that successfully meet all established eligibility criteria.
All Deadlines met with respect to cancer case admissions and all cases reported to FCDS:
o Annual Caseload Submission Deadline - June 30, 2024
o Consolidated Follow Back Deadline – September 1st, 2025

Death Certificate Notification
No more than 5% (or 35 cases, whichever number is greater) of cancer case admissions reported to FCDS within 2 months (60 days) following the June 30 deadline.
No more than 10% of cancer case admissions reported to FCDS within 12 months following the June 30 reporting deadline.
The Pat Strait Memorial Award is presented to abstractors who have submitted abstracts on behalf of a facility that received the Jean Byers Award.
