FCDS 2025–2026 Data Validation (Re-abstracting) Audit
The Florida Cancer Data System (FCDS) is conducting a 2025–2026 Re-abstracting (Data Validation) Audit to confirm the accuracy and consistency of cancer registry data submitted by hospital-based reporting facilities and to identify areas needing education or training.
Cases, limited to hospital “analytic” lung cancer cases diagnosed in calendar year 2023 and stratified by 2023 reporting-year caseload, are being audited remotely using the facilities’ abstracted data. FCDS will compare abstracted text and codes, require a “best value” resolution for discrepancies, and recode undocumented values as unknown/not available, emphasizing the long-standing requirement for complete text documentation of key variables. Discrepancies will be returned to the facility for reconciliation by the registrar, with the option to provide supporting documentation or a rationale. Facilities will have four weeks to reconcile findings, with a deadline of May 31, 2026. After that, FCDS selections will become final and be reviewed by the FCDS Quality Control Manager. Results will be issued through case-level and facility/state summary reports and used to guide statewide training and quality improvement.
